Garmin revamps G500 and G600 flight displays

Garmin has completely revamped its G500 and G600 glass cockpit displays – and added a third model, the G700. The new generation of flight displays carry the TXi suffix, are all touchscreen controlled and are available in two sizes, 10.6in and 7in.

The 10.6in unit can operate as a primary flight display (PFD), multi function display (MFD) and as an integrated Engine Information System (EIS). The 7in unit can be dedicated to any one of those functions, and a separate 7in EIS is also available, giving pilots options when putting a panel together.

The G500 and G600 units are clearly aimed at the retrofit market for older aircraft. The G500 TXi is intended for aircraft under 6,000lb, the G600 TXI at bigger aircraft to 12,500lb and the G700 at business aircraft of 12,500lb upwards.

Garmin is aiming to complete an Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the G500 TXi/G600 TXi and EIS TXi systems later this year (2017), covering over 600 single-engine piston, twin-engine piston and turboprop aircraft.

“As persistent innovators within the avionics industry, we’re redefining the flight display with the introduction of the touchscreen TXi family,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin vice president of aviation sales and marketing.

“From a single display to a full suite installation comprising of four displays, the modular, building block design of the TXi system supports an impressive array of PFD/MFD/EIS functions and formats. With TXi, we’re excited to bring a suite of scalable flight displays that fit the panel and mission of a wide range of aircraft on the market today.”
